Free Vintage-Inspired Bloom Embroidery Pattern

Stitch a Vintage Floral Wreath

Vintage embroidery patterns are easy to choose because they have their own style. But sometimes the style is also reflected in the new design. A piece of vintage embroidery inspired this immaculate floral border layout, giving you a classic look with a fresh twist.

The original embroidery was a splash of flower spring, some flowers full and some were still ready to open. This inspired pattern uses those undulating floral to create a flower and leaves flower. To finish this, stitch the word "bloom" in the center.

Of course, you can adapt this design by sewing the words of your choice to the center. The romantic acoustic patterns of our ring pillow project will work great, but the possibilities are endless. You may even want to make it more modern by choosing a word or phrase that is sharp or obsolete.

Make your finished embroidered pillow or frame it in a vintage embroidered hoop.

This pattern comes as a free JPG pattern. Save it to your computer and print it using photo software or scale it to a word processing document. Horizontally printed and full size on US letter paper, the design fits into an 8 inch hoop.

Pattern Marking

Use your favorite method to identify the pattern of your clothes. Place the fabric marked on an embroidered hoop and start sewing by following the color and stitching tips below.

Note: Although this embroidery will look great on a vintage hoop, it is best to work on a new embroidery knob. Old hoops often lose their tension over time.

Pattern Color and Stitch Suggestions

Now that you've printed your pattern, it's time to choose which stairs and colors to use.
Stitches
These suggestions use stitches from the original embroidery that inspired this pattern. Of course, you can always change it to your liking.

  •  Use a stem stitch for the green tree trunk. Use a separate chain stitch for the leaf.
  • Work the flowers with a stair stitch for the tops at the base of the flower and sew a separate chain for the tops. Make small flowers with French knots.
  •  Stitch the word "floral" with chain stitch. If you switch it to other words, you can use any other stitch or combination of stitches to make it look as beautiful as possible.

Colors
The example above gives you some ideas to get started, but there are plenty of places for color choices in this genre. Use these suggestions as a basic guide.

  • Sew flowers with two same color tones. Use straight shades for straight stitches and light shades for discrete chains.
  •  Work the stems and leaves into two shades of green to give the piece visual interest and depth. For tiny French knot flowers, use an extra color like light yellow or white.
  •  Choose the color of your choice for the center word.
  •  The flowers will look beautiful in one color, but you can choose up to nine different colors and create a colorful wheel style flower bouquet. This would be a good time to even get some embroidery floss out of your grandma's stash.
