Pattern
Download the JPG Pattern for Winter Wishes. When a landscape is placed on a surface and printed at 100%, the pattern should be in the 6 inch embroidery gap. However, you can resize it if you want.
Identify the pattern of your fabric using your preferred transfer method.
Stitch the Outlines
Put your identified fabric in an embroidery hug, stretch the fabric so it pulls.
Use three-strut embroidered floss throughout the entire project.
Work with blue and green shades, stitch holly leaf outlines with back stitching. Sew the center line of each holly leaf with chain stitch. Embroider the berries by sewing the back of the red.
Fill in the Holly With Shading
You can keep the holly leaves open but they are also good to fill in some.
To create this impressionist painting look on your embroidery, use a mix of colors that match the exterior of the leaf with a few more shades. For example, dark teal leaves have three shades of teal, plus lime green and lilac as highlights and shades.
Use stretch stitches of different lengths that come out of the center of the leaf. No need to touch the stitches but if they do, that's fine. Allow the colors to overlap a bit so that they blend in like a paint stroke.
To retain the artistic style in the berries, add some simple stitching as a fill.
Stitch the Text
To embroider the text, stitch the single outline on all the letters with back stitch.
In the second part of the "W" double line, embroider with chain stitch to finish the thickest part of the letter.
Finishing the Winter Wishes Embroidery
Remove any pattern markings as needed, then use your finished embroidery however you like.
A piece like this is brilliantly framed in Embroidered hoop and ready to hang on any wall. If you are giving it as a gift, be sure to include a hanging loop!
You can stitch it in the pillow to enjoy it throughout the season. Add some colored fabric around the edges to create the shape you want, then sew a simple envelope-style pillow.
